I found this collarless, long coat today at H&M. Now that warmer weather is on its way (hopefully), I wanted to find a light weight coat that I could wear with dresses for formal occasions (such as weddings).
While this coat is not carried in petite, the length is 31″ which is perfect for shorter women. The sleeve length is also 31″ (this is measured starting at the base of your neck and down your arm to the hem).
Find the Look (and similar styles/All have 31″ sleeve lengths):
For short statured women, length is a major issue when it comes to clothes shopping. Sleeve length, dress length, coat length, (and don’t get me started on jeans length…) can all be majorly frustrating. What I’ve learned is that it helps to know what clothing lengths (in inches) work best for you. This is especially helpful when shopping online.
Many websites offer the lengths of their clothes on their website under “details” or “description”. Learning your lengths may take some time, but it will ultimately set you up for success (and save you time and money in the future). All you need is the clothes that you already have, some measuring tape, somewhere to record the lengths (and possibly a few safety pins).
Let’s use a dress as an example…
Choose a dress that fits perfect in length.
Measure the dress starting at the top of the shoulder (near the neck) and down the dress to the bottom of the hem.
Record this length.
Now, repeat steps 1-3 for dresses with other lengths such as:
A dress that you’ll only wear with tights (this dress maybe too short to wear with bare legs)
A dress you would normally wear with a belt or comes with a belt of its own (which hikes up the length an inch or so)
A maxi dress
A cocktail dress
Reference these lengths when shopping online
Note: If you don’t own a dress that fits perfect in length, take a dress that is closest in length to ideal and pin it to your preferred length.
I bought this J Crew Factory dress for a wedding rehearsal I went to this past fall. Well since then, I’ve seen it available in every color under the sun and styled in countless ways. Now it is only available in a very similar style (the scalloping being around the collar instead of the arms).
This shift dress is so versatile. It can be dressed up or down, worn with heels or flats, and I’ve even seen it paired with sneakers. It can be mixed and matched with a number of different accessories such as a belt, blazer, or a statement necklace to find a look you love. This dress can really do no wrong. Where can you see yourself wearing it?
Baggy, frumpy, boxy. These are all terms the petite lady has used to describe a dress or shirt at one time or another. Clothes made for the regular sized person are often too big for petite frames. This is where belts come in and also one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie.
Belts help to cinch clothes that are too big around the waist. And the belts at Anthropologie are the most beautiful (and appropriately priced in my opinion) around. While other items at this store can often set you back hundreds of dollars, the price of many of their belts range from $30-$60. Where do you shop for belts?
Found these beauties today at Macy’s. They may not look it, but they are comfortable. I love that they are adjustable around the ankle, because this is an area where I find that most heels just do not fit the petite foot. Most of my heels have an adjustable strap at the ankle to allow for the perfect fit.
I am normally a size 5 1/2 in Nine West, but found that the size 6 fit me best. So make sure to size up. You can also find these heels in black and natural (nude). Check both Macy’s (or macys.com) andninewest.com to find your size. What are your thoughts on the Nine West Danyell Sandal?
I received these evening sandals today in the mail. I ordered them from macys.com. As usual, for me to find a size 5 or 5 1/2 shoe, I needed to look online. Well I must say these are beautiful. They are for a wedding I am in this April. The bridesmaid dresses are emerald green and the bride requested we wear gold heels.
I will admit, I am nervous about the heel height which is 3 3/4″. I usually stay pretty conservative with my heels staying at or below 3″ mainly due to comfort and the fear of falling. Well I will risk taking a spill for these sandals. They are too pretty to pass up!
However, if you’re looking for a shorter heel and more comfortable shoe, try the Nine West Able Platform (also goes by the name, Cinema Pump). It’s super comfortable and super cute. Where have you found evening sandals for a wedding or formal event?
Note: Size down with the Nine West Festivitie Sandals. I am usually a 5 1/2 in Nine West, but needed a size 5.
